Established in the year 1956, the High Court of Kerala has jurisdiction over the Subordinate Courts and the Tribunals in the State of Kerala and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, where it is the highest judicial forum. The High Court started its functioning in the new building, near to Old High Court Building, from 11th February 2006. The new High Court building consists of 30 Court Halls. Hon'ble Ms. Justice (Dr.) Manjula Chellur is presently the Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala.
The Kerala High Court Advocates' Association is the sole body representing the lawyers practicing before the High Court of Kerala. The Association was founded in the year 1956. At present it has more than 5000 members, consisting of more than 2000 Life Members and 3000 Ordinary Members. Nearly 10% of the lawyers on the rolls of the Bar Council of Kerala are members of the Association. As lawyers from all the 14 Districts of the State practise before the High Court, the association is a miniature Kerala.
